We Pray You…Remember the Porters.

“Here’s a knocking indeed! If a man were porter of hellsgate, he should have old turning the key… Anon, anon! I pray you, remember the porter.”

Macbeth, Act 2 Scene 3

MISSION STATEMENT:

We are The Porters of Hellsgate, a Los Angeles-based theatre company mounting visceral, relevant, engaging, and affordable productions for each and every member of our community. We are well on our way to becoming the first LA theatre company to produce the entirety of William Shakespeare’s presently accepted canon of thirty-eight plays, and are proud to bring the highest levels of quality to these classical texts, pervasive and underrepresented alike.

COMPANY HISTORY

The Porters were founded in 2006 by Edward Castuera, Jack Leahy, and Charles Pasternak. Our inaugural production of William Shakespeare’s JULIUS CAESAR opened at the end of that year.

In total the Porters have now produced THIRTY ONE of Shakespeare’s plays. Our most recent productions were 2022’s Award winning world premiere of Charlotte Munson’s DI LADY DI, as well as Shakespeare and Fletcher’s late history ALL IS TRUE, OR HENRY VIII which took home the StageRaw award for Best Direction and Ensemble.
