“Here’s a knocking indeed! If a man were porter of hellsgate, he should have old turning the key… Anon, anon! I pray you, remember the porter.”

-The Scottish Play, Act 2, Scene 3

We are a classical theatre company based in Los Angeles, California. It is our intent to bring the work of Shakespeare and other classic authors to life in the City of Angels. Our great ambition is to complete Shakespeare’s widely accepted canon of 38 plays, and in so doing, become the first company in the history of this city to have done so.

The Porters of Hellsgate Theatre Company was founded in 2006 by Edward Castuera, Jack Leahy, and Charles Pasternak. Their inaugural production of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar opened at the end of that year.

In total the Porters have now produced twenty of Shakespeare’s plays (over half-way through the canon!), the most recent being Othello. They have also performed Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, a world premiere translation of Sophocles’ Oedipus the Tyrant by resident artist Jamey Hecht, and two original works by Associate Artistic Director Gus Krieger: Deity Clutch and Sherlock Through the Looking Glass. For the Hollywood Fringe Festival, they have staged Larry Cedar’s one-man show Orwellian and Jamey Hecht’s one-man show Limousine, Midnight Blue. Premiering at the Hollywood Fringe in 2015, they produced their third original work by Krieger, Breaking Bard, which went on to play an extended 6 week run with additional material at their usual home in North Hollywood, The Whitmore, closing out their 2015 season.

We pray you, remember the Porters…
